What do I need to provide for a building permit application?
All applications need to be accompanied by a completed application form, fees and plans, which will all depend on the structure being built and the type of application being submitted (certified or uncertified).
Once you have entered your application information, we will provide you with a list of required and optional supporting documentation.
A guide can be viewed here.
Please note: If you will be storing building materials on the verge area during construction, you will be require to obtain a Verge Licence to do so. An Application for Verge licence can be made here.
What are the fees for a building permit application?
Please refer to the building fee schedule to review the current fees. Payment is required upon lodgement of the application.
What is the difference between a Certified and an Uncertified application?
A certified application has had its BCA assessment completed by a private Certifier and has been issued with a Certificate of Design Compliance. Certified applications must come in complete with all prior approvals issued (including any codes variation). The City will conduct an R-Code Assessment and issue a Building Permit for the proposed structure.
An uncertified application is submitted to council for full assessment. Uncertified applications can be lodged with codes variation applications. The City will issue a Certificate of Design Compliance and a Building Permit for the proposed structure.
For further information please visit the Building Commission's Website.
How long will it take to assess my building permit application?
Building Permit Applications are regulated under the Building Act and have time frames as to how long the City has to approve them.
Certified Applications: have a 10 business day timeframe
Uncertified Applications: have a 25 business day timeframe
How will I know when my application has been approved?
A notification will be sent to the applicant's nominated email address containing the building permit.
